Tetris for Android is a free version of the brick organizing game from Electronic Arts, and the game is entirely ad-supported so there will never be any cost to play.

This version of Tetris includes the same classic game along with several new game modes to keep the player interested and engaged. Of course, the goal of the main game is to remove all the bricks from the board by creating horizontal lines that disappear when completed. Since this game is a port to a touchscreen platform, the controls are all based on touch gestures, but they aren't too difficult to manage. Players that don't like the touch gesture controls can opt for the digital directional pad instead.

The touch controls are actually quite intuitive, and they make playing the game much more interactive. Players simply have to tap the side of one of the falling bricks to make it rotate, and clicking and dragging a shape will place it where it needs to go. Tapping the bottom of the screen will trigger the brick to fall immediately.

The free version of this game for Android only has a single game mode, which is Marathon Mode. In this mode, players will continue playing for as long as they can while the level rises and the blocks start falling with greater speed. This is basically like the original Tetris game for those that were lucky enough to play it.

The full version of the game includes a second mode called Magic Mode. This mode includes power-ups and other special blocks to help clear certain levels. Power-ups include exploding mines that can be used to destroy certain blocks, drawing tools that you can use to shape your own brick, and bubble wrap that can be used to remove individual squares from a block.

While the visuals of this version of Tetris are excellent, the music leaves a lot to be desired. The colors, graphics, and sound effects are all up to par, but the music is so annoying that many players would probably rather play with the sound muted. The music is based on the original soundtrack from the Gameboy version of the game, but they remixed it into something hideous. Players can tweak the game using certain settings to maximize their play style, and the game tracks statistics so players can see their progress. One strange facet of the app is that it requires many permissions to run smoothly on the Android platform. It accesses your GPS location, and it has the ability to call certain phone numbers. This might not be a bad thing, but curious players can check their phone Permissions settings to determine exactly what the game can do.

Tetris for Android is a great example of a remake of a classic game that hits almost every target. If the music were better, this would be a no-brainer.

Play a free version of the classic block-stacking game.

Developed by Electronic Arts (EA), this puzzle game that was a smash hit for the Nintendo console in the '80s is back in the form of a free, ad-supported mobile app for Android devices. You know the drill: Colorful blocks of different shapes fall faster and faster, and if they reach the top of your device's screen then the game is over.

The controls are simple to figure out and use, but the soundtrack isn't exactly the same as you remember it. Aside from that, this is an enjoyable Tetris game play experience.
